Triathlete Flora Duffy is the pride of Bermuda as she once again brought the island an international gold medal.
Duffy claimed gold in the women’s triathlon yesterday and created history as the first triathlete to win back-to-back titles at the Commonwealth Games.
Premier David Burt congratulated the 34-year-old on her historic achievement.
“Congratulations to Dame @floraduffy for taking Gold in the Women’s elite race at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. She becomes the first triathlete to retain a Commonwealth title & she continues to make #Bermuda proud!” he commented on Twitter.

Opposition Leader Cole Simons said: “I would like to extend congratulations to Dame Flora Duffy for winning a gold medal at the Common Wealth Games, Erica Hawley for coming 16th in the same race and Tyler Smith for coming 13th in the Men's Race.”
A Bermudian woman commented on Facebook: “Bermuda is small but we have a lot of talent. Congratulations to Flora on her victory. Best of luck to the Bermudian athletes as they go for more gold medals.”
Another person commented: “My heart filled with joy seeing Flora win gold. She is an inspiration to all Bermudians.”
Duffy is grateful for the support she has received for Bermudians and the triathlon community.
“Very proud to repeat as Commonwealth Games Champion. Really fun (and hard!) to go off the front with @georgiatb on the bike. The crowd was going nuts and it was so cool to experience that. Moments of goosebumps. Thanks for the flood of messages and support,” she said on Twitter.
Duffy will be back in competition tomorrow for the mixed team triathlon relay.
