Field Hockey In Bermuda Blog No. 4: The Owls' Last Day - Southern Connecticut State University Athletics

What a great last day in Bermuda - we couldn't have asked for better weather! The sun was shining all day and we soaked up every last ray. We took two different groups out onto the water for our first adventure of the day which was kayaking. Jana Migliaro, a graduate student and captain, said, "It was an awesome experience. So much fun! I loved taking in the view and the scenery."
Out on the water, we kayaked over a sunken ship, went under an arched bridge, and enjoyed floating while taking in the amazing views. The water was so blue and clear that you could see everything, and it was so enjoyable to be out in the sun and getting a good workout in!

After kayaking, we spent about an hour at the resort in the water and laying on the beach! There wasn't a cloud in the sky, so we really spent most of our time outside. The team finally figured out how to launch people off of the inflatable playground, so it was so fun watching people fly into the air, or even just trying to stay on it!

We traveled to Horseshoe Bay for the afternoon to see the pink beach, where we spent about two hours. The team spent time in the water, tanning on the beach, getting lunch, enjoying snow cones, and getting their hair braided. The sun was shining down on us and, to say the least, we got a little crispy! The sand in Bermuda is so much whiter and softer than in Connecticut, but it got on everything! We had sand all over us and in all of our bags, so we rinsed off and changed before heading to dinner in St. George's.

Before dinner, we walked around St. George's. A few athletes bought little jars at one of the stores to collect the pink sand from Horseshoe Bay. We also took pictures and got some much-needed and refreshing ice cream. We ate dinner on an outdoor patio by the bay and enjoyed delicious food.

This trip was truly  an amazing experience! We were able to play two competitive matches against some great players. We got to explore some beautiful beaches at the resort in Groto Bay, in Cooper's Island Nature Reserve, and at Horseshoe Bay. Some players were brave enough to jump off cliffs and to be launched in the air off of the playground in the ocean. We were able to spend time at an aquarium where we learned so much about Bermuda's sea life and history. We learned so much from our bus drivers as we were driving around the island. We took a lot of detours in order to see cool sites and historical places in Bermuda. They were our own personal tour guides! The team also enjoyed a beautiful day in the water while getting to swim with dolphins and shop around at the dockyards.

Most importantly, we had the opportunity to have the ultimate team bonding experience. We took serious advantage of our time together by telling stories, playing fun games in the water, and spending our free time laughing and getting to know our incoming freshman. Not only did we dance the night away and play two games against national level players, we bonded over being able to spend six days together on a beautiful island. We just want to give our coaches a huge thank you for helping make this trip happen and letting us start our season off with a bang in Bermuda!
