Monmouth, Ore.- The Central Washington Cross Country team competed in the GNAC Championships today at The Ash Creek Preserve hosted by Western Oregon University. The men's team finished 7th, and the women placed 10th.
"On the guy's side, we are feeling pretty good about the efforts today, we had some rough news earlier in the week where we knew that Zack Sundt wouldn't be able to make the trip," head coach Kevin Adkisson said the following the race. "I think we had some great races from some of the guys, Ty had a PR and almost cracked the top 20, then behind him, just good quality runs from Shawn and Jack. Garrett Hough had a big effort on the day. Solid for the guys, came up a little bit short without Zack."
Ty Savely led the men's team with a PR, finishing the 8k in 25:04.1, placing him 22nd. Not far behind him, Shawn Clough finished 34th with a time of 25:50.2. Finishing third for the team, Jack Pratapas completed the course in 26.16.9, placing 43rd. Garrett Hough had a great race finishing fourth for the team in 26:37.9.
"The ladies, that was a tough one. I think we had a lot of quality efforts; we just couldn't match our pack up with Billings or NNU to stick with their first runner," Adkisson added. "That's on us for not having that true front-runner this year. We are still working to push that pack forward and make a little more happen up front. "
Rosie Melville led the 'Cats Women's team finishing the 6k in 23:54.1 placing 49th. Zoie Mastin was on her heels, crossing the line 50th in 23:55.8. Tailer Cochran and Olivia Wyatt finished 3rd and 4th for the team, respectively.
The Wildcats have one more chance in two weeks when they travel to the NCAA West Regional Championship in Billings, Montana, on November 19th.
