The Bermuda High is back, and it's strong for this time of year. While it's not influencing the Great Lakes region yet, it is producing record heat in Florida.
A Bermuda High (pressure system) is a high pressure center that becomes strong over the Atlantic Ocean east of Florida. This strong Bermuda High blows southerly winds into the southeast U.S. and makes warmer than average temperatures.
The Bermuda High also develops warm air aloft, which kills off rain and cold fronts heading toward Florida.
This stronger than normal Bermuda High is expected to continue for at least the next 10 days.
Look at the eight to 14 day temperature forecast.
If you are heading to Florida in the next two weeks, you will likely have more summery days than cool days. Tampa, FL has recorded four days with record high temperatures between 84deg and 86deg in the past week.
Here are the high temperatures forecast for Tuesday, February 20, 2018:
You can see the Bermuda High is going to make much of the southeast quarter of the U.S. warmer than normal early next week.
Remember, a Bermuda High is a very common weather feature June through September. In mid-February a strong Bermuda High is unusual.
